After training as an engineering officer in the Navy, a serious machine accident ended his career in the seafaring industry. He subsequently studied natural sciences , theology , art history and philosophy in Bonn , Münster and Rome . Finally, he did his PhD in depth psychology . He became a Roman Catholic. Ordained priest (later laicized ) and joined the order of the Pallottines for a few years .

He became famous for composing around thirty sacred songs and around twenty children's and youth masses in the early days of the New Spiritual Song . Together with his brother-in-law Hartmut Wortmann , he published the Palatinate Children's Fair, which has found its way into numerous sacred hymn books such as Das Lob and diocesan editions of God's Praise . There was also a musical collaboration with Hans-Georg Pappe, among others. From 1962 to 1973 he headed the Union Limburg music studio, which he founded. First of all, Heinz Perne's records were mainly produced. In 1973, Studio Montan was founded in Cologne on the Rhine, later renamed Airport-Studio. There was a collaboration with greats of the German show business like Karl Dall and the band Die Toten Hosen, but also with Pink Floyd from London. In addition to music productions, Bergmann also made film documentaries for ZDF , e.g. B. Descent to the Deep (1970).

In 1992 Bergmann moved to his adopted home Neusiedl am See in Austria, where he set up a studio and a sculpture workshop.

One of his most important sculptural works is the fountain of life in Goldbergpark, which he dedicated to the city of Neusiedl am See on its 800th anniversary. Pictures of him also hang in the parish church of Neusiedl am See .
