Hermann Buschfort

Hermann Buschfort (born June 25, 1928 in Bocholt ; † September 13, 2003 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

From 1974 to 1982 he was Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Labor and Social Affairs .

biography

education and profession

After attending primary school , Buschfort completed an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic at Siemens AG , which he completed with the final examination for skilled workers. He served as a soldier in World War II, was in British captivity and suffered long-term health problems.

Until 1959 he worked as a precision mechanic and from 1951 to 1959 he was a member of the Siemens works council in Bocholt, most recently as works council chairman . From 1959 to 1974 he was the first authorized representative of IG Metall in the Bocholt administrative office.

Buschfort was married and had three sons, among them the television journalist Wolfgang Buschfort .

politics

Buschfort had been a member of the SPD since 1947 and a member of the IG Metall trade union since 1946 . From 1973 to 1982 he was also a member of the SPD federal executive committee.

From 1956 to 1974 he was a member of the city council of his hometown Bocholt.

From 1965 to 1990 he was a member of the German Bundestag . Here he was a member of the executive committee of the SPD parliamentary group from 1968 to 1974 and from 1982 to 1984 .

He was always drawn into the German Bundestag via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Public offices

On May 16, 1974, Buschfort was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Labor and Social Affairs in the federal government led by Chancellor Helmut Schmidt . After Helmut Kohl was elected Federal Chancellor, Buschfort left the government on October 1, 1982. Until the end of the year he remained the Federal Government Commissioner for the interests of people with disabilities (Commissioner for the Disabled); he took up this honorary position in 1979.

Social Commitment

The main focus of his political work was securing the bankruptcy loss allowance and the company pension scheme, the structuring of disability law and company co-determination. He is considered to be the father of the Works Constitution Act of 1974 and published a commentary on it. In addition, the creation of an artists' social fund (KSK) stems from his idea, although the suggestion for this came from the actor and cabaret artist Jürgen Scheller .

From 1983 to 1989 he was federal chairman of the workers' welfare organization .
From 1979 to 1982 he was the first federal commissioner for the interests of the disabled. In this capacity, Buschfort addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York in 1981.

He acted as chairman of Aktion Sorgekind and was on the board of Welthungerhilfe .
In 1987 he became president of the Association of Independent Welfare Care .
