Hermann Demel (born April 30, 1897 in Bad Ischl , † November 17, 1986 , pseudonym: Hermann Demel-Freischmied ) was an Austrian folk dramatist and theater publisher.

Life

Hermann Demel was a trained locksmith and electrician and worked for the railroad from 1922 to 1950. He was involved in the electrification of the Salzkammergut Railway and in the reconstruction of the bombed Attnang-Puchheim station .

In addition to his job and in his pension, Hermann Demel was a theater director , writer and journalist . He wrote and directed primarily for the Ebensee workers' stage (until 1938) and for the Bad Ischl folk play group (from 1945). He was the author and reporter of the Salzkammergut newspaper (Gmunden). He wrote 48 folk plays (mainly in the Austrian-Bavarian dialect), as well as radio plays and short plays. His first play ( Wahn und Liebe ) is from 1924, his last play ( Resurrection ) from 1970. He also edited 21 plays by other authors (including Johann Felix, Vinzenz Komposch and Franz Streicher). Hermann Demel founded a theater publisher for folk plays in Bad Ischl in 1958 , his commitment was to folk , amateur and amateur theater . In 1961 he co-founded the International Society - The Operetta (today Lehár Festival Bad Ischl ).

Hermann Demel was married twice and had two sons from the first marriage.

Three pieces are published by the Austrian stage publisher Kaiser & Co., Vienna. For all other pieces the performance and exploitation rights are held by the theater and architecture association "Bespielte Bretter", Bad Ischl.
