Hermann Derschmidt

Hermann Derschmidt (born February 15, 1904 in Kollerschlag ; † July 17, 1997 in Wels ) was an Austrian teacher and folk music researcher.

Life

Hermann Derschmidt graduated from the teacher training college in Linz and became a teacher at elementary and secondary schools in Upper Austria . In the various places in which he worked as a teacher at this time, he began to record songs, yodels, dance music and folk dances. In 1930 he decorated the first print of Our Yodelers with a swastika , in 1934 he was subject to a disciplinary investigation because of "National Socialist activities".

In 1939 he became head of the archive of the Gau Committee for Folk Music in the Gau Oberdonau , and later he took over the overall management of this Gau Committee. Derschmidt was a member of the NSDAP and an employee of the NS community Kraft durch Freude (KdF), after work department in Upper Danube. In 1941 Derschmidt was drafted into the Wehrmacht .

In 1948 he founded the influential folk dance group "Welser Rud". In 1956, together with Karl Horak , Franz Koschier, Herbert Lager , Hermann Lein as initiator, Franz Vogl and Richard Wolfram, he founded the Federal Association of Austrian Folk Dance (BAG), which in the same year selected dances as Austrian basic dances , which have since become the basis of folk dance training in all of Austria became.

Hermann Derschmidt was involved in many training courses for folk dance care, for example in the training course for folk dance of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Volkstanz in South Tyrol from 1960 or the Baden-Württemberg Folk Dance Week in Überlingen.
