Hermann Friedrich Wilhelm Frank (born August 31, 1871 in Hamburg ; † November 16, 1941 there ) was a German businessman and housing contractor.

Hermann Frank was the son of a Hamburg cardboard box manufacturer. After attending the Matthias-Claudius-Realgymnasium and a commercial apprenticeship, he became a board member of the German National Handicrafts Association . Frank was chairman of the Gartenstadt-Gesellschaft Wandsbek founded in 1910 and was one of the founding members of the non-profit building association in Altona-Ottensen. The Steenkamp settlement in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld was created with his help .

In 1918 he worked in the Kriegerheimstätten movement and took over the post of director of Gagfah , which operates across Germany . In 1925 he founded the Hermann und Paul Frank settlement construction company together with his brother Paul Frank , who was an architect . The company then concentrated on the construction of small apartments and became known for housing developments in Barmbek-Nord , the Jarrestadt and in Dulsberg . These were inexpensive arcade houses with modern equipment.

During the time of National Socialism , the Frank brothers concentrated on building small houses. This included the Frank'sche Siedlung in Klein Borstel , built from 1935 onwards . In 1939 the brothers participating in Kiel district Elmschenhagen a garden city in the building on behalf of the Navy.

The entrepreneur, who had taken up ideas of the National Socialists because of his German-national attitude in housing construction, died on November 16, 1941 in his hometown.

Honors

In addition to the Frank settlement in Klein Borstel, the Frankring in Hamburg-Volksdorf has been named after the Frank brothers since 1957 .

Publications

Hermann Frank published numerous writings. In 1910 he created the brochure Das Eigenheim and the Gartenstadt-Gesellschaft Wandsbek . Together with Hans Bechly, he published The Home of the Employees in 1918 . A memorandum on the possibility of improving the housing conditions of those insured by the Reich Insurance Company for employees by building small houses . In addition, numerous publications describe Frank's construction projects.
