Friedrich Wilhelm Leopold Hermann Guthe (born May 10, 1849 in Westerlinde , † August 11, 1936 in Leipzig ) was a German Old Testament scholar and Palestine researcher .

Hermann Guthe studied theology in Göttingen and Erlangen from 1867 to 1870 . In 1877 he completed his habilitation in Leipzig, where he was professor of the Old Testament from 1884 until his retirement in 1921. In 1877 he was a co-founder of the German Association for the Exploration of Palestine .
