Hermann Julius Hermann
Hermann Julius Hermann (born October 12, 1869 in Vienna ; † May 10, 1953 ibid) was an Austrian art historian .
Life
Born in Vienna, Hermann Julius Hermann turned to studying art history at the University of Vienna after completing his Matura , which he completed in 1895 with the academic degree of Dr. phil. completed. Hermann Julius Hermann subsequently took on an assistant position at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna in 1898 , where he was appointed director of the collection for sculpture and applied arts in 1923, succeeding Julius von Schlosser . Hermann held the management of the Kunsthistorisches Museum from 1924, initially until 1925 as first chairman of the college of academic officials, from 1925 as first director, and in 1933 resigned from this position.
Hermann Julius Hermann completed his habilitation in 1901 as a private lecturer in art history at the University of Vienna, where he was appointed associate professor in 1921 . In 1921 he was elected to the scientific advisory board and in 1929 to the board of directors of Urania . After Austria was annexed to the German Empire , he laid down his Venia legendi. He died in 1953 at the age of 83 in Vienna. He was buried at the Hietzingen cemetery .
After the First World War , Hermann Julius Hermann successfully defended Austrian art treasures against claims by the successor states of the Danube Monarchy.
