Vincent Oberhammer

Vinzenz Oberhammer (born November 23, 1901 in Innsbruck ; † October 6, 1993 in Vienna ) was an Austrian art historian .

Life

Vinzenz Oberhammer studied at the University of Innsbruck , where he received his doctorate in 1926 under Moritz Dreger . In 1928 Oberhammer started at the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum and later became an assistant at the Institute for Art History at Innsbruck University . In 1936 he completed his habilitation at the University of Salzburg. From 1938 to 1954 he worked as curator at the Ferdinandeum Museum , which he successfully rebuilt after the Second World War. In 1949 he received the title of associate professor for art history at the University of Innsbruck. In 1955 he went to the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, initially as director of the painting collection and administrative director, and from January 1, 1960 until his retirement on December 31, 1966, at the same time as first director.

Oberhammer was buried in the Strebersdorf cemetery in Vienna.
