Moritz Dreger

Moritz Dreger (born June 3, 1868 in Vienna ; † April 26, 1939 there ) was an Austrian art historian .

Life

Born as the son of a private citizen, Dreger studied philosophy and art history at the University of Vienna after attending the Vienna Schottengymnasium , with Franz Wickhoff , Alois Riegl and Otto Benndorf, as well as at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research in Vienna and at the Austrian Historical Institute with Theodor Sickel in Rome . During his studies in 1887 he became a member of the Libertas Vienna fraternity . In Vienna he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . He worked in the Kupferstichkabinett of the Vienna Court Library . He went on study trips through Europe and the Orient . He also took part in an expedition to Dobruja and was involved in the excavation of a Trojan monument. From 1879 to 1899 he was curator and then vice director at the Austrian Museum for Art and Industry , where he made outstanding contributions to the textile collection. In 1901 he completed his habilitation at the University of Vienna. From 1917 to 1926 he was a full professor at the University of Innsbruck , then until 1936 at the TH Vienna . He was also active as a writer.
