Hermann Klens

Hermann Klens (born September 21, 1880 in Niederhelden , † August 25, 1972 ibid) was a German Catholic clergyman and General Praeses of the Central Association of Women's and Mothers' Associations in Germany.

Origin and education

Hermann Klens received after studying philosophy and Catholic theology at the Theological Faculty of Paderborn on 14 April 1905 Great Cathedral in Paderborn by Bishop William Schneider , the ordination .

Act

On April 15, 1905, Klens was appointed chaplain at the Dreifaltigkeitskirche in Dortmund . On April 17, 1915, Bishop Karl Joseph Schulte appointed him Diocesan Secretary of the Catholic Virgins' Associations in the Diocese of Paderborn , based in Bochum . On December 13 of the same year, Klens took over the office of General Secretary of the Central Association of Catholic Virgins' Associations in Bochum with the approval of his bishop . On January 1, 1923, he was promoted to its General Praeses. From 1928 until it was banned by the National Socialists on November 11, 1939, Klens was General Praeses of the Central Association of Women's and Mothers' Associations in Germany . During this time he came into conflict with the Gestapo on several occasions , which, in addition to interrogations, warnings and a conviction for distributing leaflets, culminated in a ban on further writing.

After the Second World War , the German bishops commissioned Klens as early as 1945 to set up the main church office for pastoral care for women in the German dioceses . In March 1947 he was one of the founders of the Bund der Deutschen Katholischen Jugend (BDKJ) in the Jugendhaus Kloster Hardehausen near Paderborn, together with Ludwig Wolker , and was the first federal president of the women's youth in the BDKJ until 1952. On Klens' initiative, the re-establishment of the Central Association of Women and Mothers in Germany went back in 1956 .
