Hermann Knöllinger

Hermann Knöllinger (born March 26, 1883 in Groß-Gerau , † October 31, 1914 in Le Quesnoy ) was a German classical philologist .

Life

Hermann Knöllinger, the son of Adam Knöllinger and Elisabeth born. Weihrich, attended grammar school in Mainz from 1894 to 1902 and then studied classical philology in Munich , Berlin and Gießen . On 19 June 1906 he was at Richard Wünsch Dr. phil. PhD . In his dissertation he collected the fragments of Cicero 's De virtutibus , which he published in 1908 in Teubner-Verlag .

After completing his teaching degree and military service, Knöllinger was employed as an assistant at the philological seminar of the University of Giessen from 1908 and led the exercises in the proseminar. He also taught as a teaching assistant at the Realgymnasium Gießen . When the First World War broke out , Knöllinger volunteered. He fought as Vice Sergeant in the Reserve in Infantry Regiment 116 on the Western Front and was awarded the Iron Cross . On October 31, 1914, he fell in a storm on Le Quesnoy . His last work, a new edition of the Aristotelian Problemata physica based on the edition by Charles-Émile Ruelle , was completed by Joseph Klek after his death (1922).
