Hermann Kropatscheck

Hermann Wilhelm Kropatscheck (born February 11, 1847 in Nahausen near Königsberg in the Neumark , † June 29, 1906 in Berlin ) was a German conservative publicist and politician .

He studied history and philology at the University of Halle and received his doctorate in 1869. phil. In 1870 he became an assistant teacher in Halle before taking part in the Franco-German War . In 1873 Kropatscheck became a teacher at the grammar school in Wismar and in 1878 a senior teacher in Brandenburg an der Havel .

In 1883 he resigned from school and became editor of the conservative Kreuzzeitung . Kropatscheck was editor-in-chief from 1895 to 1906.

As early as 1879 he became a member of the German Conservative Party in the Prussian House of Representatives , to which he was a member of the constituency of Potsdam 7 (Westhavelland - Zauch-Belzig) until his death. In the House of Representatives, he was mainly responsible for school and education policy. From 1884 to 1903 he was a member of the Reichstag as a member of the constituency of Potsdam 9 district (Jüterbog - Luckenwalde) . In the Reichstag he played an important role in his parliamentary group in social and craft policy.

In 1890, Kropatschek was involved in founding the Evangelical Social Congress together with the court preacher and anti-Semitic politician Adolf Stöcker , the economist Adolph Wagner and the pastor Ludwig Weber . This should counteract the success of social democracy but also the increasing secularization of broad sections of the population.

In 1890 he was a member of the December Conference on Education Reform. Between 1891 and 1892 he was a member of the Committee of Seven for the reform of the higher education system. He was also involved in the conference of 1900 . Kropatscheck was a member of the permanent commission for technical education in Prussia.

As an author he was involved in the school atlas for the upper classes of higher education institutions.
