Hermann Kudlich

Joseph Hermann Kudlich (born January 1, 1809 in Lobenstein , Austrian Silesia , Austrian Empire , † November 26, 1886 in Troppau , Austria-Hungary ) was an Austrian journalist and politician .

education and profession

After attending a two-class elementary school and grammar school in Opava, Kudlich studied philosophy and law at the University of Vienna from 1827 to 1833 and initially worked as a private educator and teacher, then as a trainee lawyer. 1846–1848 he worked as estate manager at Dietach Castle near Wels , later as commercial manager of the coal mines in Waidhofen an der Ybbs , from 1854 to 1862 in Melk . From 1862 he was a privateer in Troppau. He also worked as a journalist and was interned several times for "treasonous activities". As a long-time employee of the newspaper Silesia ( Teschen ) he was sentenced to two months imprisonment in 1864 for an article that was directed against the Schleswig-Holstein policy of the Minister Graf Rechberg .

Political functions

From May 26, 1848 to June 18, 1849 he was a member of the electoral district of Benisch for the First German National Assembly in the Frankfurt Paulskirche in the Deutscher Hof fraction and in the subsequent Stuttgart rump parliament . From 1867 to 1876 he was a member of the Silesian state parliament .

family

In the family his nickname was Hermann, as his brother Hans calls him in the memoirs. In the baptismal register only Joseph is entered as his first name, he married as Joseph Hermann and in the death register again only Joseph is. However, on the tombstone was Joseph Hermann. Josef Hermann Kudlich is the oldest brother of the Austrian “peasant liberator” Hans Kudlich . He was married to Luise Eltz. His son Walter and grandson Reinhard were mayors in Opava.
