Hermann Freihold Plüddemann

Hermann Freihold Plüddemann (born July 17, 1809 in Kolberg , † June 24, 1868 in Dresden ) was a German history painter and illustrator .

Life

Plüddemann was a student of the painter Carl Sieg in Magdeburg , of Carl Joseph Begas in Berlin (1828) and of Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadow at the art academy in Düsseldorf (1831). From 1832 he exhibited in Düsseldorf. Based on a template by Carl Friedrich Lessing , he created the monumental fresco The Storming of Iconium for the garden hall of Heltorf Castle in 1839/1840 . Until 1846 he belonged to the master class at von Schadow, in 1848 he moved to Dresden as a professor. The focus of his work as a history painter was Friedrich Barbarossa and Christopher Columbus .
