Hermann Suida

Franz Carl Hermann Suida (born February 3, 1887 in Vienna , † September 20, 1973 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian chemist .

Live and act

Hermann Suida was the son of Wilhelm Suida (born  September 10, 1853 in Wekelsdorf , Böhmen; †  March 31, 1922 in Mödling , Lower Austria) and his wife Gabriele († January 1914 in Vorderbrühl near Mödling; age: 53), sister of August Böhm Edlem von Böhmersheim (1858–1930). In Vienna, he studied chemistry at both the technical college and the university and completed both courses with a doctorate . In 1914 he qualified as a professor for organic chemistry and in 1918 for technical chemistry. After his father's death in 1922, he took over his chair for chemical technology of organic substances at the Vienna University of Technology ; In 1931/32 he was dean of the chemical-technical faculty. From 1943 to 1945 he was also head of the four-year plan institute for mineral oil research. In 1946 he was relieved of his professorship and retired in 1947.

He worked particularly in the fields of organic chemistry, applied chemistry and process engineering.
