Hermann Walther (doctor)
Hermann Walther (born May 15, 1815 in Dresden ; † April 16, 1871 there ) was a German internist .
Life
Hermann Walther studied medicine at the University of Leipzig from 1834 and there defended his dissertation De vi nervorum in secretionibus regundis on August 21, 1838 . After a long scientific journey through Germany and France, he settled in Dresden as a practicing doctor. When the city hospital opened in 1850, he was appointed senior physician in the internal department; the surgeon Eduard Zeis took over the management of the external department. Later, Walther was also the royal personal physician , secret medical adviser and consultant in the Ministry of the Interior. In 1864 he was appointed President of the State Medical College. On August 21, 1863 he was elected to the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina with the nickname Hippocrates IV . In 1871 he died of diabetes mellitus .
