Hermann Wentker

Hermann Wentker (born December 16, 1959 in Bonn ) is a German historian and head of the Berlin department of the Institute for Contemporary History .

Hermann Wentker studied history and German literature in Erlangen and Bonn and received his doctorate with a thesis on the British war aims in the Crimean War at Klaus Hildebrand Dr. phil. He then worked for a few years as a research assistant to Adolf Birke at the University of Bayreuth . In 1994 he moved to the newly established branch of the Institute for Contemporary History in Potsdam (now Berlin-Lichterfelde ). Since 1998 he has headed the Berlin-Lichterfelde department. In 2001 Wentker completed his habilitation at the University of Leipzig with a thesis on judicial policy in the Soviet Zone and the early GDR . In the meantime he has been appointed adjunct professor .

Hermann Wentker's main research interests include the history of international relations in the 19th century and the history of the GDR, in particular church policy, foreign policy and the history of the judiciary. He has published numerous articles and books on these topics.
