Hermann Wilhelm (painter)
Hermann Wilhelm (born September 4, 1897 in Lauenstein , † February 24, 1970 in Nuremberg ) was a German painter and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg .
Life
Hermann Wilhelm was born in Lauenstein (today part of Ludwigsstadt ) in Upper Franconia in 1897 . During the First World War he was a soldier from 1916 to 1918. From 1919 to 1923 Wilhelm was Rudolf Schiestl's student at the Nuremberg School of Applied Arts ; from 1925 to 1931 he trained at the United State Schools for Free and Applied Arts in Berlin . In 1927 he was a master student of Paul Plontke . In 1928 he received a medal from the United State Schools. He was temporarily a member of Max Slevogt's round table in the Romanisches Café and had a personal relationship with Max Liebermann . In 1931 the society for drawing arts was founded in Franconia and the Upper Palatinate , in which Wilhelm was involved. He was in contact with Ernst Barlach , Alfred Kubin and other artists. In 1933 the Rudolf Schiestl Memorial was founded in Kalchreuth . In 1937 the Sparbrot cycle was confiscated in Berlin.
In 1939 Wilhelm was drafted again for military service; In 1940 he married Wett Scharg. Wilhelm was in the military until 1945. Almost all of his work, which had been created by then, was destroyed in 1945 by air raids on Nuremberg, the last time on January 2, 1945.
Wilhelm worked in Erlangen from 1945 to 1950 . In 1946 he was appointed to the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg . Oskar Koller , Toni Burghart and Christian Kruck were among his master students . From 1960 to 1963 he was Vice President of the Academy. He died on February 24, 1970 and was buried in the Johannesfriedhof in Nuremberg.
