Hermann Wolff (Pastor)

Hermann Wolff , also Wolf , Welphius (* in Lübeck ; † April 17, 1625 ibid) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman, main pastor of the Jakobikirche in Lübeck and senior of the Ministry of Spirituality .

Life

Hermann Wolff attended the Katharineum in Lübeck , studied at the University of Rostock from May 1587 and received his master's degree there in 1590 . He then went to the University of Wittenberg , where he responded to disputations in 1595/96 under the chairmanship of Johann Georg Volkmar and Salomon Gesner .

In 1598 he was appointed preacher at the Marienkirche in Lübeck . On January 28, 1613, he moved to the Jakobikirche as (main) pastor. From 1622 he was at the same time senior of the Lübeck Spiritual Ministry and thus in the vacancy period between the death of superintendent Georg Stampelius in 1622 and the appointment of Nikolaus Hunnius in 1624 the incumbent chief clergyman of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lübeck .

He was married to Anna, geb. Menne, a daughter of Heinrich Menne , his predecessor as a senior. Of the couple's sons, Heinrich became pastor in Oldesloe and Johannes garrison preacher in Glückstadt .

Together with the other pastors, members of the council and teachers of the Katharineum who were involved in the founding of the Lübeck city ​​library , his name and coat of arms can be found on the frieze of the shelves created in 1619 in today's Scharbausaal.
