Hermann von Choltitz

Hermann Ernst Alfred Ludwig von Choltitz (born August 11, 1868 in Wiese-Graeflich , † March 20, 1947 in Wiesbaden ) was a German district administrator .

Hermann was a son of the Prussian captain and gentleman of the same name on Wiese-Count Hermann von Choltitz (1828–1876) and his wife Antonia, née von Carlowitz (* 1833). His older sister Antonie (* 1864) was married to the Prussian cavalry general Otto von Garnier . A nephew was the later General of the Infantry Dietrich von Choltitz .

Like his father, Choltitz first studied at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität , where he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia Bonn in 1887 . He moved to the University of Breslau and in 1891 was also a member of the Corps Silesia . After completing his studies, Choltitz embarked on a civil service career, while his brother Hans (* 1865) ran his parents' estate. Choltitz was general landscape president of Silesia and was from 1907 to 1920 district administrator of the Neustadt district . Before the beginning of the First World War , Choltitz took over the management of the farm in Wiese-Graeflich, while his brother Hans did military service in Flanders as major and commander of the Uhlan regiment "Prince August von Württemberg" (Posensches) No. 10 .

Choltitz married Margarete Crüger (* 1885) on January 17, 1911 in Langenbrück . The children Hermann (* 1911), Maria (* 1914) and Joachim (* 1915) emerged from the marriage.
