Hermann III. von Breitenlandenberg , also Hermann von Landenberg , (* 1410 ; † September 18, 1474 in Konstanz ) was Bishop of Konstanz from 1466 to 1474 .

family

Hermann came from the von Landenberg family , a Thurgau knight dynasty. His parents were Hermann IV, called Schöch, and Ursula Truchsess von Diessenhofen .

His brother Wildhans von Breitenlandenberg was the captain of Greifensee and is a historical figure in Switzerland. His brother Kaspar von Breitenlandenberg was abbot of St. Gallen Monastery from 1442 to 1463 . His sister Anna is said to have been married to the Mayor of Zurich Schwend.

He was the brother-in-law of knight Bilgeri von Heudorf (Pilgrim von Heudorf).

Life

Hermann studied from 1424 at the University of Heidelberg , from 1436 at the University of Bologna . In 1430 he became a canon and canon in Constance. In 1442 he held a cathedral canonical in Chur . From 1451 to 1466 he was dean of the cathedral in Constance.

On April 24, 1466, he succeeded the late Burkhard II von Randegg as bishop of the diocese of Constance . He immediately appointed Ludwig von Freiberg , Canon of Constance, to be his coadjutor .

Bishop Hermann was considered a peacemaker. 1468 and 1472 as an important mediator between the Confederation and the Habsburgs ; he died shortly before the end of the " Eternal Direction 1474 ", which he had influenced .

Hermann von Breitenlandenberg died on September 18, 1474 and was buried in the Konstanz Minster .

Successors were in the Constance diocese dispute , Ludwig von Freiberg as a candidate for Pope Sixtus IV , and Otto IV. Von Sonnenberg , as a candidate for the cathedral chapter and the emperor.
