The Hermes was a cruise ship of the Greek Royal Olympic Cruises , which was commissioned in 1956 as Jugoslavija for liner service off the coast of Yugoslavia . The ship remained in service until 2005 and was scrapped in Turkey in 2011 after six years of berth .
history
The Jugoslavia was built under construction number 130 near Brodosplit in Split and launched on July 5, 1955. After the takeover by Jadrolinija in August 1956, the ship was put into service in liner service off the coast of Yugoslavia. The Jugoslavija was one of three identical sister ships .
After fifteen years in liner service, the French Euroexpomer SA took over the ship under the name Messager . However, it never got going under this name, but instead went to the Greek Epirotiki Lines as Hermes in 1976 , in order to be used for cruises in the Mediterranean from then on . In 1979 the Hermes went to Hellenic Mediterranean Cruises, but was still managed by Epirotiki.
After the merger of Epirotiki with Sun Lines to form Royal Olympic Cruises, the ship automatically became their property and remained in service until the shipping company went bankrupt in 2004. The Hermes was taken over by Short Island Cruises in February 2005, but launched in Piraeus after only a few voyages . After six years of lay in Piraeus, the ship struck on February 23, 2011 in Aliağa , Turkey , to be scrapped there.
The sister ships of the Jugoslavija were the Jedinstvo, scrapped in 2005, and the Jadran, scrapped in 2015 .
