Hermione Proshko

Hermine Camilla Proschko , pseudonym C. Wittendorf (born July 27, 1851 or July 29, 1854 in Linz , † March 25, 1923 in Vienna ), was an Austrian writer and editor of Jewish descent. In addition to short stories, plays and poems, she has published books and plays for children and young people.

Life

Hermine Proschko was the daughter of Franz Isidor Proschko and the officer's daughter Emilie Burggraf. Her father was also a writer for young people. Hermine Proschko dedicated the poem “At my father's grave” to him. Proschko attended the conservatory in Vienna. In addition to her work as a writer, she published the yearbook “Jugendheimat” from 1887 to 1898 and the series “Jugendlaube” from 1891 to 1908, which comprised 18 volumes. Proschko also headed the “Catholic School Association Calendar”. In 1879 and 1881 she was awarded the silver medal for her literary work. Proschkogasse, the former Wäschergasse, in Vienna's 6th district was named after her and her father in 1911.

Her sister Emilie Albertine was a painter and her brother Cornelius was a secondary school professor.

Act

Like her father, Hermine Proschko published factually instructive literature on Austrian history. She took a decidedly patriotic perspective. Out of her national pride, she glorified the Austrian imperial family. The book "Habsburgs Kaiserfrauen" contains biographies of the wives of the Austrian ruling houses from 1274 to 1878, including Maria Theresa and Empress Elisabeth . She also wrote numerous short stories that take up the history of the Habsburgs. In addition, she wrote “Our Emperor's Golden Jubelfest”, a kind of commemorative publication for the 50th anniversary of Franz Josepf I's reign . Proschko wrote another commemorative publication on the “Silver Wedding of the Imperial Couple Franz Josef and Elisabeth of Austria under the sign of the deep love and loyalty of his subjects” as a souvenir of the feast day on April 24, 1879. This book contains stories and poems, including the poem “The Federbusch ”and the story“ The porcelain vase. An episode from family life at the court of Leopold I. ”In“ The Crescent in Front of Vienna ”she dealt with the topic of the repulsed siege of Vienna by the Ottoman Empire, popular in Austrian literature . Her narrative style had "not infrequently something academically dry because she did not process the raw materials evenly, be they from stories or life,". Between 1901 and 1909 she published her father's collected writings.
