Herschdorf is a district of the town of Leutenberg in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

geography

The place Herschdorf is located southeast on a high plateau on the northern edge of the southeast Thuringian slate mountains . The high plateau is largely surrounded by forest. The high proportion of fine earth and the high humus content of these soils are the basis for safe and high yields under the prevailing weather conditions. The county road 168 connects the village with the surrounding area.

history

Established around the year 1100, the place was first mentioned in a document on April 30, 1417 as Hersdorf . Until 1918, the place belonged to the Amt of Leutenberg or District Office Rudolstadt in the supremacy of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

The church was built in 1675 and there was a school in the village until 1925 . Formerly a farming village, today tourism is important for the place.
