Munschwitz is a district of the town of Leutenberg in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

geography

The district road 166 leads through the Lemnitztal and connects the high plateau around the village Munschwitz with the settlement of St. Jakob to the east after the end of the village and with the federal road 90 in the west lying Sormitztal . This plateau is also framed by forest. The districts of Munschwitz and St. Jacob belong to the south- east Thuringian slate mountains and have the same qualities as in the neighboring towns.

history

Munschwitz was first mentioned in a document in 1340. For the neighboring hamlet of St. Jacob, which has always been connected, no documented first mention could be determined in the available literature. Munschwitz belonged to the Grafschaft Schwarzburg-Leutenberg and after its extinction from 1564 to 1918 to the supremacy of the Grafschaft or the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

Munschwitz, the village of the monks, and St. Jacob have a common seal because they have always formed a community. The parsonage and school house as well as three linden trees are shown on the seal. At the time of the GDR, the predominantly agricultural places followed the path of East German agricultural policy and also relied on tourism .
