In 1898 the land for a new church and monastery was acquired.

The church was built in neo-baroque style based on plans by the architect Janko Holjac and was consecrated in 1902. It took a decade to complete the equipment. In 1941 Pope Pius XII raised the church to the rank of minor basilica. In 1977 the church was designated a parish church .

In an earthquake on March 22, 2020 , part of the ceiling of the church collapsed.

The single-nave church is closed off by a pentagonal apse . The chapels, over which the gallery runs, go off to the side. The barrel vault of the nave rises 20 meters high and spans a width of 13 meters, the area of the interior thus reaches 800 m², to which there are also the choir and galleries , so that the church can hold 3000 visitors.

Furnishing

The main altar with a large image of Christ was erected in 1906. On top of it is a marble cross adorned with jewels and below it is a carved image of the Lamb of God . There are further altars in each of the side chapels. Also in 1906 the organ was installed by Rieger Orgelbau from Jägerndorf, today Krnov .

In the basilica is the grave of Ivan Merz (1896–1928), who was beatified in 2003 and who frequently visited the church.
