Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Effeld

history

A chapel building association was founded around 1907. In the absence of a church of their own, the Effelder believers had to attend the service in St. Martinus in the neighboring village of Steinkirchen . The construction site of the church in Steinkirchen was already occupied in the 1870s. Even then Effeld was much bigger than Steinkirchen. In 1908, the Effeld chapel building association asked the Cologne Vicariate General for building permission for its own church. Permission was granted and the foundation stone was laid on May 26, 1909. On September 18, 1910, the new church was designated by the pastor Christian Joseph Peters from Steinkirchen. The plans for this single-nave church with a semicircular apse in the homeland security style come from the Cologne architect Edmund Renard . In 1911 the chapel building association transferred the property together with the church to the parish of St. Martinus Steinkirchen. In 1931 the parish seat was moved from Steinkirchen to Effeld under Pastor Wilhelm Schleiß, which gradually shifted parish life to Effeld.

Since January 1, 2010 Steinkirchen-Effeld is no longer an independent parish. It was merged with some other former parishes to form the parish of St. Marien Wassenberg.

Furnishing

In the interior there is a people's altar from 1976. The entire chancel was designed by Joseph Ritzenthaler from Hückelhoven . The organ dates from 1931 and has 14 registers. It is a work of the Aachen organ building institute Karl Bach . The two brass chandeliers from 1930 should also be mentioned. The triumphal cross comes from the Steinkirchen church. Most of the windows were created by Franz Carl Hubert Hertel in 1910. Two of the windows are works by the artist Ernst Tesar from 1959.
