Herzblatt was a German flirt show produced by Grundy Light Entertainment and broadcast between 1987 and 2005.
Process and history
One man and one woman, known as pickers, were allowed to choose their “sweetheart” from three candidates of the opposite sex per broadcast. This was determined through a survey of the candidates, in which they should answer as charmingly and funny as possible. According to the broadcaster, these answers were formulated by the candidates themselves before the program was recorded. The answers of the three candidates were summarized from the off for better decision-making by the voice of the presenter Susi Müller ("the Voice of Herzblatt"), who became known throughout Germany through Herzblatt .
During the entire interview, the picker and candidate were separated by a wall and saw each other for the first time when the picker had made his choice. Each couple was given a trip starting with a helicopter flight as a gift and - questioned separately - reported on their impressions in the next broadcast.
Before the broadcast started on October 9, 1987 on Erste and ORF , Günther Jauch was offered the moderation. However, this refused because he saw himself as unsuitable for dating. So Rudi Carrell finally took over the show .
In 2003, an episode with gay candidates was broadcast for the first time.
In 2005, Herzblatt switched from first to Bavarian television and ran there until it was discontinued in 2005.
From October to December 2016, the program entitled Herz sucht Liebe was broadcast on Sat.1 Gold on Wednesdays at 8:15 p.m. with Thomas Ohrner as presenter and Susi Müller as voiceover.
