Heyo K. Kroemer
Heyo Klaus Kroemer (born April 4, 1960 in Leer ) is a German pharmacist , pharmacologist and university professor .
Live and act
After graduating from high school Ulricianum in Aurich , Kroemer studied pharmacy at the TU Braunschweig from 1978 to 1983 . At the Dr. Margarete Fischer-Bosch Institute for Clinical Pharmacology in Stuttgart , he was with a thesis on Hämodilutionsbehandlung of stroke for Dr. rer. nat. PhD .
The short research stay at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel was followed by a two-year postgraduate course at Vanderbilt University, funded by the NATO Science Committee . Returned to the Stuttgart Institute in 1989 , Kroemer completed his habilitation in pharmacology and toxicology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen in 1992 . In 1998 he became C3 professor for clinical pharmacy at the University of Bonn .
On September 1, 1998, he accepted the appointment of the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald to the chair of general pharmacology. He deals with molecular and clinical metabolic problems of drugs . He is particularly interested in substances that affect the heart and cytostatics, as well as improving drug targeting . From 2000 to 2012 he was Dean of the Medical Faculty of the Ernst Moritz Arndt University and since 2011 Scientific Director of the University Medical Center Greifswald .
He turned down an offer from the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (1998) and an offer from the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf as a full-time dean (2006). As a result, the Center of Drug Absorption and Transport (Greifswald) , which is unique in Germany, was built at the University Medical Center Greifswald .
From September 1, 2012, he was offered a position at the University Medical Center Göttingen , where he was the full-time dean of the medical faculty, spokesman for the board and responsible for research and teaching until August 31, 2019.
Since September 1, 2019, he has been Chairman of the Board of Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin .
In 2018 he was elected a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
Kroemer is married and has three children.
