Hieronymus Gerhard

Hieronymus Gerhard (born December 31, 1518 in Hildesheim , † May 12, 1574 in Stuttgart ) was a statesman from Württemberg.

Life

Gerhard studied at the University of Wittenberg , where Philipp Melanchthon took care of him. He moved to the University of Tübingen where he was supported by Johannes Brenz and began studying law. After completing his studies, he was appointed to the consistory by Duke Ulrich von Württemberg and received his doctorate in law.

He also advised Duke Georg von Württemberg-Mömpelgard . Even Christoph von Württemberg took him into his service. In 1551 he was involved in negotiations for the Council of Trent and in 1564 in the religious discussion in Maulbronn . In 1556 he was appointed vice chancellor, in which function he died as a respected statesman.
