Hildegard Fässler
Hildegard Fässler-Osterwalder (born June 22, 1951 in Frauenfeld ; resident in Appenzell and Stettfurt ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ).
Life
Fässler attended elementary schools in Steckborn and then went to the teachers' college in Kreuzlingen . She graduated from primary school in 1972. She then studied mathematics at the University of Zurich until 1977 . After completing her diploma, she also trained to become a secondary school teacher (diploma for higher education) at the University of Zurich and graduated in 1980. From 1979 to 2000 she was a mathematics teacher at the Heerbrugg Cantonal School .
Fässler joined the Werdenberg SP in 1980 and ran for the Cantonal Council of St. Gallen for the first time in 1988 . She was not elected at the time. From 1990 to 1996 she was a board member of the SP Werdenberg. In 1991 the first candidacy for the National Council followed . From 1992 until her resignation on September 30, 1996, she was a member of the St. Gallen Cantonal Council. She ran in the 1995 elections for the second time for the National Council and for the first time for the Council of States . From 1996 to May 2001 she was Vice President of the SP of the Canton of St. Gallen. On March 3, 1997, she replaced the National Councilor Kathrin Hilber, who had resigned on December 31, 1996, to the National Council. From December 1999 to June 2002 she was vice-president of the SP parliamentary group and thereafter she served as parliamentary group president until 2006. From May 19, 2001 to June 19, 2004 she was also President of the SP of the Canton of St. Gallen.
Fässler resigned from her National Council mandate on March 3, 2013. She justified her decision by saying that she had been in the National Council for 16 years (four legislatures) and that this was a good time to quit. In addition, her husband has been retired for three years and she wants to spend more time with him. Claudia Friedl replaced Fässler in the National Council.
She has been married to Peter Fässler, a professor at the NTB Technical College in Buchs SG since 1976 , and now lives in Grabs in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley.
Hildegard Fässler was president of the house association Switzerland .
