Hiroyuki Miura ( jap. 三浦浩幸 , Miura Hiroyuki * 31 December 1973 in Kushiro , Hokkaido ) is a former Japanese hockey player . His older brother Takayuki Miura was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Hiroyuki Miura was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1992 in the eleventh round as a total of 260th player by the Canadiens de Montréal . This made him the first Japanese ever to be selected in the NHL Entry Draft . However, he never played for the Canadiens themselves. Instead, the defender ran in the 1993/94 season for the Wheeling Thunderbirds in the ECHL . From 1994 to 2006 he played for the Kokudo Ice Hockey Club - first in the Japan Ice Hockey League and then from 2003 in its successor Asia League Ice Hockey . He also won the ALIH championship title with Kokudo in 2005 and 2006. From 2006 to 2009 he played for Kokudo's successor team Seibu Prince Rabbits . When the team then stopped playing, Miura ended his career at the age of 35.
International
For Japan , Miura took part in the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano . He was also in his country's squad at the A World Championships in 2000 , 2001 and 2004 .
