The Hirschenbach is a brook in the 13th district of Hietzing in Vienna . It is a feeder of the Vienna River .

The Hirschenbach has a length of 925 m with a height difference of 68 m. Its catchment area is 0.7 km².

The stream rises on the northern slope of the Hagenberg in the Lainzer Tiergarten . It runs in a ravine to the north and passes the western slopes of the Nikolaiberg . Outside the zoo wall, the Hirschenbach crosses Wientalstrasse in a 14 m long passage. It finally flows into the Vienna River in the Auhof retention basin in Hütteldorf .

There is no risk of flooding at the Hirschenbach. In the event of a flood of the century , neither the infrastructure nor the resident population are affected.

The culvert under Wientalstrasse was built in 1966.

ecology

The Hirschenbach is a habitat of the water bat ( Myotis daubentonii ), which hunts insects above the surface of the water. In the Lainzer Tiergarten it flows through oak and hornbeam forests .
