history

Construction of the church began in 1943 during World War II and was finished in 1944. Ktitor (founder) of the church was the colonel and Četnik - the commander of the Cer-Majevica corpus group, Major (in other sources also Vojvode) Dragoslav Račić.

Major Račić had the wooden church of St. Tsar Lazar built in the village of Savković and a primary school in the neighboring village of Gornje Košlje on the locality Razbojište . Both buildings are considered his foundations.

At the end of the Second World War in 1945, the new authorities of socialist Yugoslavia wanted to destroy the church, which the population of Bobija prevented, but the region, as the so-called Četnik region, should not have a share in the prosperity and good standard of living in what was then Yugoslavia.

The north entrance of the church

On June 11, 1946, the church was solemnly consecrated by a priest .

It has a stone foundation, a small entrance portal and is made of wood. Not a single nail was used to build the church. It has a (wooden) iconostasis typical of Orthodox churches . However , it does not have a fresco painting inside. There are entrances to the church on the west and north sides. The church also has icons .

A free-standing wooden bell tower rises to the side.

Every year on Vidovdan (June 28th) there is a folk festival near the church, which is attended by people from all over Azbukovica.
