The University of Space Technology ( Chinese  航天 工程 大學  /  航天 工程 大学 , Pinyin Hángtiān Gōngchéng Dàxué ) is a Chinese military academy . It reports to the Strategic Combat Support Force of the People's Liberation Army and is looked after by the Space Department (航天 系统 部, Pinyin Hángtiān Xìtǒng Bù ). The headquarters of the university is in the VBA street, greater community Yanqi the municipality Huairou in the north of Beijing , next to it has two branch offices in Changping and Shahe .

history

Today's University of Space Technology was founded in June 1978 as a cadre school of the then Commission for Defense Technology of the People's Liberation Army . As this commission on May 10, 1982 with the Office for Defense Industry at the State Council (国务院 国防 工业 办公室) and the Commission for Scientific and Technical Equipment at the Central Military Commission (中央军委 科学 技术 装备 委员会) to the Commission for Science, Technology and Industry was united for national defense , the cadre school initially remained as such until it was upgraded to the Technical Management Academy of the Defense Technology Commission (国防 科 工委 指挥 技术 学院) in 1986. In 1999 the leadership academy was subordinated to the main witness office of the People's Liberation Army and in 2011 renamed the “Academy for Equipment of the People's Liberation Army” (中国人民解放军 装备 学院). In the course of the far-reaching reform of national defense and the military , the main witness office and with it the academy were subordinated to the Central Military Commission . In 2017, with the Academy of Equipment as the nucleus, the University of Space Technology was founded and subordinated to the Strategic Combat Support Force in order to train both managers and technical staff for the space sector. The first rector of the college was Major General Zhou Zhixin (周志鑫, * 1965), member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a specialist in remote sensing . As political commissar, he was placed at his side by Major General Ji Duo (纪), who was until then head of the political department at the Jiuquan Cosmodrome .

courses

The University of Aerospace Engineering offers the following four-year courses (a high school diploma in the natural sciences and a good knowledge of English are prerequisites):

  • IT engineer in staff duty (指挥 信息 系统工程)

For this course of study, the students must have been found fit for office work (指挥 专业 合格) during the examination . It provides an introduction to the five systems in space flight (rocket, payload, cosmodrome, TT&C, ground segment), the organization and management of a mission, the information technology systems used in the command structure and the technical equipment used in the Space is used. After graduation, the students should be able to participate in the management of a space mission and to operate and maintain the computer systems used.

  • Rocket Launch Engineer (武器 发射 工程)

This course, for which the students must be fully usable (其他 专业 合格), offers an introduction to the measurement and testing processes during a countdown , the start process and the control during the flight. A separate start laboratory (航天 发射 实验室) with a simplified control room is available for this purpose.

  • TT&C engineer (测控 工程)

In this course of study, for which the students must be fully operational, there is first an introduction to optical trajectory tracking using telescopes and lasers , then to the principles of radio telemetry and radio remote control, and finally to determining and adjusting the orbit of spacecraft. A group of four 12 m antennas in the mountains in the north of the city district are available for this purpose.

  • Aerospace engineer (航天 装备 工程)

This course of study, for which the students must be fit for office work, offers an introduction to the construction of spacecraft, space flight mechanics , the basics of automatic control, electrical engineering and computer science. The aim is to enable the students to operate, maintain and test the equipment used in space travel, to monitor their manufacture and also to participate in their development themselves.

  • Science and technology of optoelectronic communication (光电 信息 科学 与 工程)

In this course of study, for which the students must be fully usable, there is an introduction to optics, electronics, space weather and computer science. The aim is to enable students to monitor targets in space, observe space weather and prepare analyzes about the security of electromagnetic communication.

  • Reconnaissance and Intelligence Service (侦察 情报)

This course, for which the students must be fully operational, offers an introduction to remote sensing using satellites, the principle of early warning, the processing and interpretation of satellite images, the creation of intelligence presentations and the planning of space-based reconnaissance missions.

  • Remote sensing science and technology (遥感 科学 与 技术)

This course of study, for which the students must be fully usable, offers an introduction to the technology used in remote sensing, electronics, signal and data processing as well as computer science. The aim is to enable students to process and apply information obtained via reconnaissance satellites and to supervise the systems used for this.

This course of study, for which the students must be fully operational, offers an introduction to digital signal processing. The aim is to enable students to design internet-based and satellite-supported communication networks and to participate in the planning and supervision of communication satellite missions.

This course of study, for which the students must be fully usable, offers an introduction to the acquisition of information via satellites, the processing of this information, data transmission and data security. After graduation, students should be able to develop, supervise and keep data security concepts up to date.

Unlike at the University of Computer Science of the Strategic Combat Support Force in Zhengzhou or Luoyang , where no applicants from Ningxia , Tibet , Hainan , Qinghai and Shanghai are accepted, the University of Space Travel is open to all physically fit Chinese between 17 and 20 years of age. Around 250 new cadets are accepted per academic year, who after graduation are primarily assigned to the departments of the Strategic Combat Support Force .
