history

The ship was built in 2010 by the Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co. in China. It is one of two identical ships, the sister ship is the Hoegh Beijing . In 2014, the Hoegh Xiamen were chartered to Höegh Autoliners for eight years on the basis of a bareboat charter .

Fire 2020

On June 4, 2020, the Hoegh Xiamen , which is on a time charter for the Italian shipping company Grimaldi Deepsea, was lying at the Blount Island Marine Terminal in Jacksonville , Florida, loaded with used and new vehicles for West Africa and was waiting for the pilot at around 4 p.m. Local time a fire broke out on deck 7. As a result of the fire, there was an explosion in which eight firefighters were injured. On June 8, 2020, the ship was still burning and being cooled from the outside.

Technical specifications

The car carrier is of a MAN diesel engine driven type 9S50MC-C, which acts on a propeller. There are three generators for power generation, which are driven by two MAN diesel engines of type 8L23 / 30H and one MAN diesel engine of type 6L23 / 30H. An emergency generator powered by another diesel engine was also installed. The ship is equipped with an electrically powered bow thruster .

The ship has two loading ramps. The stern ramp has a capacity of 120 t. The entrance to the deck is 7.6 meters wide. The second, lower capacity ramp is located approximately amidships to starboard. The Hoegh Xiamen has eleven decks that are connected to one another by ramps. Three decks can be adjusted in height up to 5.3 m to accommodate the type of cargo.
