The Hohe Fraßen (also Hoher Frassen , formerly "Pfannenknecht") is a 1,979 meter high mountain in the Lechquellen Mountains in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . It is the westernmost independent mountain of the range.

It can be reached from the mountain station of the Muttersberg cable car.

  • with a circular route via Fraßenhütte (1,725 ​​m; hut of the OeAV Vorarlberg section) and the same route as the way back: 3½ hours
  • via Rappaschrofaweg and Tiefenseesattel (1,562 m): 4 hours

The summit can be reached from Raggal on a steep path in 2eil hours.

Word meaning

The name Fraßen or Frassen is related to the words fressen or eat, which are still used today, and should refer to the grazing of the slopes or mowing . Adelung also mentions "fretzen", "frexen", "atzen" as related words to "eat" in his grammatical-critical dictionary of the High German dialect. Similar meaning in Hoher Freschen .
