Hohndorf is a place in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany).

Geographical location

Hohndorf is located about three kilometers north of Prettin and about 28 kilometers southeast of Lutherstadt Wittenberg .

history

The place was founded in 1159 by Flemish settlers who were called to the area by Margrave Albrecht the Bear . The former place name "Hoendorph" is attributed to the location of the place on a hill. The school and the church were first built in 1620 at the suggestion and foundation of the then Electress Hedwig . In Hohndorf there was a train station of the Prettin-Annaburger Kleinbahn . In 1974 the place was incorporated into Prettin and has been part of the city of Annaburg since January 1, 2011 .

Culture and sights

The 1885 as the successor to a Protestant church first built in 1620 , the equipment of which consists in part of the previous building. The listed buildings of the place are listed in the list of cultural monuments.

Leisure and Tourism

The Elbe cycle path, which is around 1220 kilometers long, passes near the village . The volunteer fire brigade and the fire brigade association in the village are formative for cultural life.
