Axien is a district of the city of Annaburg in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt . Until December 31, 2010, Axien was an independent municipality with the districts of Axien, Gehmen and Kähnitzsch .

geography

The place is about 35 km southeast of Wittenberg and about 20 km north of Torgau in the lowlands on the east bank of the Elbe on an old Elbarm. In the south the place borders on Saxony .

history

Axien is first mentioned in 965 as Uazgrini. The place itself is likely to be older. A castle guard under the name Wazgrini was mentioned in Axien as early as 865 . It served as a fortified bridgehead on an Elbe ford.

On January 1, 2011, Axien was incorporated into the city of Annaburg.

  • Axiener ESV e. V. (Axiener Elbaue Sportverein): The Axiener ESV was founded in 1990, it emerged from the former association "Traktor Axien". Until 1999 there were two sections, soccer and bowling.

  • Georg Schönfelder (1911–1996), chess trainer and organizer of chess tournaments. Labruner "Georg-Schönefelder-Landopen" is named after him.
