history
Bethau was probably founded in 1159 by Flemish immigrants, who were settled in this area by Archbishop of Magdeburg Wichmann von Seeburg and Albrecht the Bear . In the 12th century, today's area belonged to the Counts of Brehna. The settlement of today's local area was essentially completed at the beginning of the 13th century. The settlement was carried out by a locator , who divided a piece of land assigned to him by Magdeburg into "hooves" and distributed it to the farmers who had now moved there. Place names were 1528 Betho, 1555 Bethaw, 1598 Betaw and from 1672 Bethau.
On January 1, 2011, Bethau was incorporated into Annaburg.
