Holm O. Bursum

Holm Olaf Bursum (born February 10, 1867 in Fort Dodge , Iowa , †  August 7, 1953 in Colorado Springs ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of New Mexico in the US Senate .

Bursum, whose parents were of Norwegian descent, first attended public schools in Iowa before he lived in the New Mexico Territory from 1881 . He settled near Socorro and made a living by raising cattle . Politically, he was initially active from 1899 to 1900 as a member of the territory's Senate . He was the territorial central committee in the years 1905 and 1911; In 1910 he participated in the New Mexico Constitutional Convention.

From 1920 to 1924, Bursum was a member of the Republican National Committee . During this time he was appointed US Senator. After Albert B. Fall had taken over the office of US Secretary of the Interior , Holm Bursum succeeded him in Congress on March 11, 1921 . On September 20 of the same year, the by-election followed, which he also won, so that he remained in the Senate until March 3, 1925. The attempt to re-elect in 1924 was unsuccessful.

After initially working in the newspaper business in Washington , Bursum returned to New Mexico and continued his business activities. He died in 1953 while staying in Colorado .
