history

The Holzkirchen Monastery, founded before 775, and the place were part of the area of ​​the Würzburg Monastery and fell to the Counts of Löwenstein-Wertheim in the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . In return for a pension, however, they sold it to Bavaria in 1803, which they left with Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany in 1805 to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg . With the treaties of Paris in 1814, the Grand Duchy became part of Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, the municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

Holzkirchen was a municipality in the Marktheidenfeld district until its dissolution. Holzkirchen has been part of the Würzburg district since July 1, 1972 .
