Wüstenzell is a district of the municipality of Holzkirchen in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg .

The village is located on the Aalbach , in the west of the municipality and on the border with Baden-Württemberg . The old town is located in the valley of the Aalbach, to the northeast there is a settlement area on the slope of the Steinertberg. The Franconian Marienweg runs through Wüstenzell .

history

The original name was Wüstzella. This name was given to the place because a hermit - monk of the monastery of wooden churches in this desolate area his monastery cell ( hermitage had). The settlement of the place is assumed for the 8th century AD at the latest, in documents of the Fulda monastery the village is listed as obligated to the monastery Holzkirchen to labor. In 1359 the place with a customs post belonged to the former owners, the Counts of Wertheim , on the road from Würzburg to Wertheim to Cent Remlingen.

On May 1, 1978, Wüstenzell was incorporated into the community of Holzkirchen.
