Holzschlag is a district of the Baden-Württemberg town of Bonndorf in the Black Forest in the Waldshut district .

geography

Holzschlag is located in the southern Black Forest at 816 m in the Reichenbachtal, a branch of the fault line of the Bonndorfer Graben . Holzschlag is located between Lenzkirch and Bonndorf , south of Gündelwangen on the B 315 . The hamlet of Glashütte (Bonndorf in the Black Forest) has been part of Holzschlag since 1927 .

history

Holzschlag is a relatively young settlement and emerged from a timber settlement . Until 1664 what is now the district area was completely forested. With the transfer of imperial rule Bonndorf to the St. Blasien monastery , 150 hectares of forest were cleared in the Gündelwangen district in 1664 in order to develop a new settlement area. Some of the wood was used to build houses, but most of it was sold to the ironworks in Eberfingen operated by Count von Pappenheim and Count von Sulz . Tyrolean woodcutters were recruited for the clearing. Initially, three Meierhöfe were built to the monastery . When the clearing work was completed in 1684, the woodcutters asked to also settle on the cleared area, which the monastery allowed. With the secularization and the associated dissolution of the St. Blasien monastery , Holzschlag came to the Grand Duchy of Baden and became an independent municipality with the hamlet of Glashütte and Klausenhof. On January 1, 1975, Holzschlag was incorporated into the town of Bonndorf in the Black Forest .

religion

Holzschlag never had its own church building. In the church, Holzschlag belonged to the parish of Gündelwangen, which in turn has been part of the Bonndorf-Wutach pastoral care unit since January 1, 2015 .

traffic

Logging is affected by the B 315 . The Kappel Gutachbrücke – Bonndorf (Black Forest) railway ran below the town until 1976 and crossed the Reichenbach valley in a large 180 ° bend on the Reichenbach dam. The former Gündelwangen train station was located on the western edge of the town. Although the station was close to Holzschlag and the municipality made the area available for the route free of charge at that time, the railway management had not approved the double name Gündelwangen-Holzschlag for the station. Today, Holzschlag is served by the Neustadt - Bonndorf bus route.

Culture and sights

Holzschlag offers access to the Wutach Gorge through the Reichenbachtal , which can be reached at the Stallegger Bridge . Today the Bähnle Cycle Path runs as a section of the Southern Black Forest Cycle Path on the abandoned railway line of the former Kappel Gutachbrücke – Bonndorf (Black Forest) railway and thus over the Reichenbachdamm, which is still completely intact . There is also an educational bee trail in Holzschlag.

Regular events

Every year an Advent market takes place in Holzschlag on the newly designed village square. The Grünwald-Holzschlag eV brass band is an integral part of the local cultural life. The chapel uses a costume that is atypical for the Black Forest . The women wear a traditional leather jute dress, the men wear knee breeches made of deerskin with the Tyrolean double eagle as a coat of arms on the suspenders . The costume is intended to remind of the Tyrolean woodcutters who contributed to the founding of the village through the clearing.
