Ebnet is a district of the Baden-Württemberg town of Bonndorf in the Black Forest in the Waldshut district .

geography

Ebnet is located in the southern Black Forest on the eastern roof of the Black Forest, on a plateau to the right of the Steinatal between the Steinasäge and Rothaus .

history

Ebnet is first mentioned in a document in 1405, when it came into the possession of the Lords of Erzingen . At that time Ebnet only consisted of a feudal farm called Ebnit. The name should stand for level, which can be derived from its location on the plateau above the Steinatal. In addition to this single farm, there were probably Saubach (212 ha), Rohrhof (238 ha), Hornberg (85 ha) and Kohlhald (30 ha) farms. However, due to their long-term unfavorable location, these farms were closed between 1830 and 1897. They were demolished and the meadows and fields were reforested. Only the Ebnit farm developed into a larger settlement. The Ebnit farm belonged to the rule of the Nellenburger in Grafenhausen . It was operated as an inheritance and later came to the Count of Lupfen and then to the Pappenheimer . In 1609 Ebnit came to the monastery of St. Blasien , because it was bought by Grafenhausen. Under the rule of St. Blasien, the individual farm is likely to have expanded first to a hamlet and then to a village, which was named Ebnet after the first farm. With the dissolution of the St. Blasien monastery in the secularization , Ebnet came to the Grand Duchy of Baden and became an independent municipality. It was the smallest independent municipality in terms of inhabitants in what was then the Upper Black Forest district. On January 1, 1972, Ebnet was incorporated into Bonndorf as part of the municipal reform.

economy

Ebnet was purely agricultural, although you could hardly live on it alone. This was also the reason why the four individual farms around Ebnet were closed. For this reason, occupations that are now extinct today were pursued as Harzer , potash boiler and coal maker . In the century before last, up to 40 piles are said to have burned in the area. The last kiln burned in 1923. The community owned 137 hectares of forest, the proceeds of which were used to finance a school building in 1909/10, the central water supply in 1954/55 and the construction of the Anna Church in 1962.

religion

St. Anna Chapel in Ebnet

Ebnet originally belonged to the parish of Birkendorf. In 1640 Ebnet came to Bonndorf as a branch. In the center of the village there was a chapel that may have had its origins in a court chapel. In 1821 a new chapel was built and dedicated to Mother Anna . In 1933 it was given a porch, as it only allowed thirty people. A larger extension was not possible because of the nearby road, which is why a new chapel was built on the opposite slope in 1963 and the old chapel was removed. The former chapel porch now stands above the village, as a shelter, at a bus stop.

The chapel porch of the old chapel is now on the country road, above the village, as a bus stop

The new chapel is also dedicated to St. Anna and is now part of the Bonndorf-Wutach pastoral care unit as a subsidiary parish .

school

The monastery of St. Blasien had introduced compulsory schooling in all places under its control. Thus Ebnet received a school, whereby the lessons were held in the house of the respective schoolmaster. In 1838 the community built a school building that also housed a room for the town hall. In 1909 another schoolhouse with two classrooms, two office rooms for the town hall and a teacher's apartment was built. In 1967 the school was closed.

Regular events

Every year the St. Anna Festival takes place in Ebnet. The patronage of the St. Anna Chapel is also celebrated with a secular festival held by the volunteer fire brigade in and around the "Kohlplatzhütte".
