The Homberg near Bad Wildungen in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district , North Hesse ( Germany ), is about 518.5  m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Kellerwald low mountain range and is considered Wildung's local mountain .

location

The Homberg is located in the east of the Kellerwald low mountain range in the Wildunger Bergland . It rises in the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park west of the town center of Bad Wildungen and northeast of the Reinhardshausen district . In the west and north it is surrounded by the wild . The landscape leads east-south-east to Katzenstein and south to Bismarckhöhe ( 511.4  m ) with its east-south-east foothills Emmahöhe . On the mountain, the Bad Wildungen forest spreads out with beech forest including the breakfast beech , which stands on its eastern flank a little north of a 455  m high junction.

Natural allocation

The Homberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group West Hessian mountain and sink country (No. 34) and in the main unit Kellerwald (344) to the subunit Wildunger Bergland (344.2).

Mountain height

In the summit region of Homberg is on topographic maps a trigonometric point of 518.5  m uppermost located thereof with the height directly above, contour line recorded. Therefore, this altitude does not refer to the mountain top.

Observation tower

The 17 m high observation tower on the Homberg was built in 1882 from rubble stones. From its platform you can enjoy the view over parts of the Kellerwald from a height of 16 m and look, among other things, in the northeast to the Habichtswälder Bergland (including Hercules ), to the southeast to the Knüllgebirge and to the southeast to the Schwalm landscape .

Traffic and walking

District road  40 (Bad Wildungen - Reitzenhagen - Bad Reinhardshausen) runs north, west and south-west past Homberg and K 43 runs south-east, leaving the town center of Bad Wildungen, in the direction of Hundsdorf, south-west to federal road 253 . The mountain summit can only be reached on forest and hiking trails, for example on a circular trail that starts at the spa park in Bad Wildungen.
