action
The Simpson family dare to work on a giant puzzle together. But when they are happy about the completion, their neighbor Ned Flanders notices that a part is missing. While searching for it, Homer discovers Marge's keepsake box and learns that Marge was thinking of breaking up after spending an evening at Moe's when Homer got too drunk. At the same time he learns that she found out only a short time later that she is pregnant. Homer fears that Marge only married him because they were already expecting a child, Bart .
He confronts his wife with the allegations, but she only replies evasively. Desperate, Homer moves in with Milhouse's father, Kirk van Houten, until he sees an apartment in the newspaper. Without Homer noticing, it is in a gay area. His homosexual roommates Grady and Julio get Homer to groom and express himself in a cultivated manner. Marge notices the changes, but cannot forgive him for the accusations.
Finally Marge overcomes himself and hires Weird Al Yankovic , who plays a song for Homer together with his band. Marge invites her husband to a reconciliation meeting, but when Homer is late, she apparently leaves him for good. Back in his apartment, Homer is kissed by his roommate Grady and flees in fright. At Moe's, he drinks so much again that he is admitted to the hospital.
Dr. Hibbert shows him by video that he had recorded to convict a thieving nurse how lovingly Marge looked after him during the alcohol poisoning at the time. The two then finally reconcile and promise each other eternal loyalty.
Allusions
The original title of the episode Three Gays of the Condo refers to the film Die Drei Tage des Condor ( Three Days of the Condor ). In contrast to other Simpsons episodes like Vergiss-Marge-Not , which not only adapt the title but also the plot of a feature film, the plot of this episode is not based on the film.
In addition, a bowling shirt appears again in Homer's closet, which is worn in the also Emmy-winning episode Homer and Certain Fears of a Homosexual.
The song Weird Al Yankovic sings for Homer and Marge is a parody of Jack and Diane by John Mellencamp . Yankovic wanted to cover this song beforehand, but did not get permission from Mellencamp.
Guest speaker
Musician Weird Al Yankovic appears as a guest star and dubbed himself accordingly in the US version. The openly homosexual actor Scott Thompson played the role of gay Grady , who took Homer into his apartment.
