Homokmégy [ homokmeːɟ ] is a Hungarian community in the county Kalocsa in Bács-Kiskun .

geography

Homokmégy is 120 km south of Budapest and about eight kilometers from the left bank of the Danube .

history

The Roman Catholic parish was founded in 1877, its registers have been kept since 1878. A new church was consecrated in 1878 in St. Adalbert's honor.

1938, a cemetery dating back to the Avars discovered. The finds from the excavation are kept in the Hungarian National Museum.

After 1945 the infrastructure of the community developed (electrification, kindergarten, library, cultural center, apartments, artesian well, various shops). Between 1954 and 1973, several folk music researchers and collectors visited the village. In 1963 Homokmégy was a starting point for the Hungarian Ethnographic Atlas. In 1996 trenches from the 10th and 11th centuries were excavated next to the Alsómégy – Homokmégy road.

Flood protection work since the 19th century has greatly changed the character of the area, in which there are large peat deposits.

Town twinning

traffic

The road no. 5313 runs through Homokmégy. On the railway line from Kalocsa to Kiskőrös , which runs three kilometers north of the municipality, passenger traffic was discontinued in 2007, so that rail travelers have to use the train station in Kiskőrös, which is about 30 kilometers northeast.
