Hoover is an American city in Jefferson and Shelby Counties , Alabama , in the United States . In 2010, Hoover had 81,619 residents.

Hoover's geographic coordinates are 33 ° 23 ' N , 86 ° 48' W (33.386435, -86.804938). Hoover is on the upper reaches of the Cahaba River .
According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 113.1 km² , of which 111.7 km² is land and 1.3 km² (= 1.17%) is water.
history
It was registered as a city in 1967. Until the 1980s, the city was predominantly characterized by residential areas. This changed with the construction of Interstate -Highway I-459 , which Birmingham bypasses south and southeast, and a direct connection from I-20 / I-59 west and east of Birmingham to the south leading -I 65 produced.
Demographics
At the time of the United States Census 2000, Hoover was inhabited by 62,742 people. The population density was 561.7 people per km ². There were 27,150 housing units at an average of 243.0 per km². The Hoover population was 87.66% White , 6.77% Black or African American , 0.16% Native American , 2.89% Asian , 0.03% Pacific Islander , 1.40% said other races belong to and 1.09% named two or more races. 3.79% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Residents Hoover distributed to 25,191 households out of which 33.4% had children under the age of 18. 59.4% of households were married, 7.2% had a female head of the household without a husband, and 30.9% were not families. 25.9% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 6.3% of all households aged 65 years or older.
