Horacio Coppola
Horacio Coppola (born July 31, 1906 in Buenos Aires , † June 18, 2012 there ) was an Argentine photographer . Together with Annemarie Heinrich , Grete Stern , Anatole Saderman and Juan Di Sandro, he was one of the pioneers of photography in Argentina and a representative of modernism.
Life
At the age of 21 he provided the pictures for the biography of Evaristo Carriego by Jorge Luis Borges . In 1929 he helped found the first Cine Club of Buenos Aires, of which he was president. On a trip to Europe he acquired a Leica camera with which he worked all his life. While studying at the Bauhaus , he met Grete Stern , whom he married. After training with Walter Peterhans , he returned to Argentina with Grete Stein in 1936 and opened his own studio.
He has received several awards, including in 2003 as Ciudadano Ilustre de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires .
